Karl's Beisl @ Solaris Mon't Kiara

Before this, I knew nothing about Austrian cuisine except the famous Apple Strudels I read from a food Magz.

.
But now, I learned more about Austrian culture. It is not just Apple Strudels alone that are the well-known thing from Austria, but also their winter sport - ski; the beautiful art and culture - ballet, dance or Waltz; the music - Violin, the national flower - Edelweiss, the national costume of Austria for men - Lederhosen. These are all represented in the painting of Austrian King Emperor Franz Josef.

Many Many Thanks to Karl's Beisl for an invitation over to sample some real authentic Austrian dishes along with the other food lovers.

Starters:

DSC_0129

A kick start with Spinach Salad, with red peppers and Bacon Strips (RM 18) - fresh green with appetizing dressing. It is always best with pine nuts in the salad too :)

DSC_0146

Cold Platter, with Serrano Ham, Chorizo, Pork Belly, Olives, Cheese, roasted Red Peppers, Gherkins, sun dried Tomatoes & Baguette (For 1: RM 38; For 2: RM 70). The pork belly was something similar to our Chinese Siew Yoke. However, it was not marinated as heavy taste as the chinese version. The others like Serrano Ham, the thinly sliced ham was smokey and salty while the Chorizo was made of pork meat and paprika.

DSC_0150

Franziskaner Weissbier - the pork's best friend. I love this

Soups:

Cream of roasted Garlic & Red Pepper with Rosemary (RM 15) and Cream of Forest Mushroom (RM 18) were both hearty rich. Do try out the red pepper soup; it was creamy and fragrant with the hint of rosemary that will make you fall in love with it easily.

Mains:

DSC_0183

Karl's Beisl Roasted Suckling Pig served with steamed Cabbage/ Sauerkraut & mashed Potatoes (served whole at RM 199++; half at RM 110++). The roasted Suckling Pig was prettily 'dressed' in pinkish orange. The skin was extremely crispy and every bite you will hear "Krucccccch, Kruuuunnncccchhhhhhh"!

DSC_0214

Farmer's Platter - a combination of Karl's Beisl Roasted Pork Knuckles, Pork Belly, Kasseler Ham, Bratwurst, Frankfurter Sausage, Steamed Cabbage/ Sauerkraut (RM 95/ RM130)

DSC_0222

Double Rib Pork Chop (RM 50) with extra thick cut of rib pork chop, wedges and sweet corn.

DSC_0229

Pork Wiener Schnitzel with Potato Salad (Rm 38). Love the soft tender meat in the inside and the crispy outside. The potato salad dressed with their special dressing was tantalizing. One can never forget the moment of every bite.

DSC_0247

Black Pepper Spare Ribs with Garlic Butter Rice and pickle veggies (RM 60) - the ribs were meaty and juicy and well compatible with the fragrant butter rice. I couldn't stop feeding myself the buttery rice.

DSC_0202

Seafood Spaghetti with white wine sauce (RM 30). the spaghetti was well flavoured with the white wine sauce and the freshness from mussels and huge juicy scallops.

Desserts:

We 'saved' tummies for the famous pastries of Austria!!!

DSC_0276

Calvados Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce (RM 20) was something we wowed and wowed over the table. Its pastry was thin and crispy while the inner apple cubes filling was lovely! I love the sourish filling with the bursting cinnamon flavour.

DSC_0265

Palatschinken - crepes with apricot jam, rum and raisin Ice Cream (RM 18) was deeeeeeeeelicious!!! I do hope i can successfully make something like this at home.

And also, the Chocolate Guinness Cake homebaked by Babe KL. Her baked goodies were really yummy! Gotta try out her recipe. (thanks Babe!)

It was always great to have meals together with food lovers - kampungboycitygal, Chris & Christine, Pure Glutton, Fat Boy Bakes, Babe KL, Ciki, A lil Fat Monkey and J, the chocoholic. Nice meeting you guys!

Few more things: Austria is famous for the beautiful snow mountains sceneries, their lovely abbey choirs, and of course, the filming location of the evergreen Sound of Music! =)
